Interesting and controversial stories and accounts; things we can be too shy to say, taboo topics and opinions. Life, Death, Sex, Childhood through to Adulthood. Sometimes serious, sometimes tongue in cheek. If we can't laugh, we sink. A silly sense of humour enabled me to swim against the tide of misfortune and laugh in the face of death. Some questions I ask touch upon religion, but this is not a religious blog.

Who Do We Think We Are?

I'm going to start with the wider picture. I can talk about me and my experiences, but who am I? A microscopic speck in the universe, A heaving mass of insignificance, Just one of the millions that call themselves the Human Race; A race we are, seemingly, losing. After years of knowing about global warming, this week's news admits the facts and the collective human head swells with ideas of ruining the planet.

A hippy phase of my youth took me down the path of "Save the Planet", buy recycled toilet paper, don't buy mass produced anything; We are ruining the planet.

BUT WHO, ON THIS EARTH, DO WE THINK WE ARE?

Yes, we can affect the climate, Yes, we can wipe out entire species and change the face of the planet as we know it, but do we really think we can stop this ancient watery sphere from being anything than just that?

Billions of years old, species come and go, climates come and go. Carbon Monoxide becomes stored in the fossils of that which once lived, keeping the atmosphere habitable for that which lives now. The human race is guilty of releasing these deadly gasses by utilising the fossils in which they were stored. Who will suffer?

Not the planet. The planet is adaptable; life is adaptable. Species evolve and species die out. We thought we were so clever with our industry and technology, but not clever enough to see that it was only ourselves we were wiping out; only ourselves we were damaging - Not the planet. The planet will live on, as it always has for its billions of years. We cannot say the same for our so called super intelligent race.

Like children with unlimited funds in a sweet shop, we took greedily and stuffed our faces. We didn't give much consideration to those who couldn't enter the sweet shop. No we just stuffed our faces. It will be us who pays the price and, perhaps, those who couldn't even enter the shop.

We are only another animal, we are not above extinction. Just who do we think we are?

If I were a youthful hippy today, I might be thinking, "Go on nature, kill em off. The best thing for the planet would be to get rid of the humans"

For every action there is a precise opposite reaction? Let us hope not, for all our sakes.

Comments gratefully received.

More to come later about actions, reactions and karma.
